Authentic Nepalese and Tibetan Flavors
Our Tale at Lakhay
Welcome to Lakhay, where food and tradition come together in the heart of Amsterdam.
The name Lakhay comes from the Newari language ‘la’ meaning meat and ‘khay’ meaning egg. In Newar culture, the Lakhay dance is performed during festivals to protect the community, with its powerful steps and lively music filling the streets of the Kathmandu Valley.
In that same spirit, our restaurant honors and protects Nepal’s rich culinary heritage. At Lakhay, every dish tells a story from Newari festival specialties to Tibetan flavors prepared with care to bring the taste of the Himalayas to your table. Our mission is simple: to share the flavors and traditions we grew up with, and to create a place where culture, community, and good food meet.

Our Passionate Team
We’re a small team with a big love for Nepalese and Tibetan food. What started as a passion for the dishes we grew up with has become our way of sharing culture through flavors.
Our menu brings together the best of both worlds from Newari festival favorites to Tibetan classics like noodles, curries, and handmade dumplings. Some dishes stay true to tradition, while others carry a fresh twist, but all are prepared with care and respect for their roots.

Our Food
At Lakhay, we bring the flavors of Nepal and Tibet straight to your table. Our menu features Nepali favorites like choila, momo, bara, chatamari, and the classic thali, along with a variety of pork, chicken, mutton, and vegetarian dishes made with traditional spices.
From the Tibetan side, enjoy hearty noodle dishes such as chow mein and thentuk, available in chicken, pork, or vegetarian options.
We also offer plenty of veg and vegan choices, prepared with the same care and respect for tradition. Whether you’re craving something familiar or ready to try something new, our food is all about sharing the taste of the Himalayas.
