Lakhay, meaning la(meat) and khay(egg) in the Newari language, is the protective deity of all children in the valley. City inhabitants offer food and donations to the lakhay as it dances through the city followed by its melodic band giving dance move exhibitions. Lakhey's dance enacts the streets and city squares during festivals, portraying a rich Newar culture of Nepal Mandala.
Lakhay, protectors of the town resemble the rich traditional food cuisine of Nepal Bhasa. Food is a gateway to resonating and experiencing the thriving culture and heritage. Lakhay aims to make a passage to connect a wide variety of exceptional endangered cuisine celebrated and cherished in different festivals of the Newari culture with a hint of Tibetan touch.
